Job Summary
The role will oversee an established team of managers, supervisors and engineers responsible for the safe and effective delivery of electrical services across the group’s portfolio. The postholder will also take responsibility for overseeing specialist subcontractors, expanding the team’s service delivery, growing the department and increasing self-delivery. while ensuring electrical safety rules are enforced and wider business electrical compliance is supported.
Key Responsibilities Include
(but not limited to):
Operational
• Lead and coordinate the delivery of electrical services groups portfolio.
• Manage labour, resource planning and operational delivery across managers, supervisors and engineers to ensure SLAs and KPIs are achieved.
• Ensure that all work delivered by the team is completed safely, on time, within budget and to the required standard.
• Work closely with managers throughout the business to maintain high levels of client satisfaction and service performance.
• Attend supplier, operational, site and client meetings as required.
• Take responsibility for specialist subcontractor performance, compliance and service delivery.
• Undertake supplier reviews and support the appointment and mobilisation of new specialist subcontractors as required.
• Review performance against SLAs and KPIs for the discipline and drive continuous improvement.
• Ensure that accurate cost estimates and quotations are provided in a timely manner.
• Order materials and request purchase orders in line with company procedures.
• Oversee tools, plant and equipment asset auditing within the electrical service area.
Health and Safety
• Provide H&S leadership and compliance across all electrical works.
• Support H&S training, toolbox talks and the communication of electrical safety rules.
• Ensure risk assessments and method statements are produced and are suitable and sufficient for tasks, minimising risk to employees, subcontractors and end users.
• Carry out site visits to monitor safety compliance and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Log near misses, support investigations and promote a positive safety culture.
• Support accreditation, compliance and technical audits.
• Attend internal and external H&S meetings.
People
• Lead and support an established team of managers, supervisors and engineers, and assist direct reports in managing their own teams effectively.
• Provide coaching, leadership and be a role model to the team.
• Promote company culture and maintain high levels of engagement, accountability and motivation.
• Ensure effective and efficient control of resource across the team, including succession and capacity planning.
• Identify training and development opportunities to enhance team capability and broaden service provision.
• Undertake review meetings with direct reports and agree development areas and objectives.
• Oversee and support the recruitment process for new engineers and other electrical team roles, in conjunction with the HR Team.
• Oversee and take an active role in new joiner inductions.
• Manage HR processes for the team such as holiday approvals, return to work meetings, leavers processes and employee relations matters.
Financial/Commercial
• Oversee profitability of jobs undertaken to ensure gross profit targets are achieved.
• Manage operational WIP, including open jobs not ready for invoicing.
• Ensure purchase orders are raised in accordance with company policy.
• Oversee purchase invoicing and manage approvals and queries.
• Process timesheet approvals and checks.
• Manage the team’s expenses.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
Essential
• Industry standard electrical qualifications.
• Proven experience in managing an established team of managers, supervisors and engineers.
• Excellent people management and leadership skills.
• Experience in CDM, health and safety and electrical compliance, with the ability to review or produce site-specific RAMS.
• Sound knowledge of FM hard service delivery and customer satisfaction.
• Commercial and financial awareness of planned and reactive service contracts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to identify issues and implement practical solutions.
• Resilient, organised and resourceful.
• Ability to prioritise and work under pressure.
• Personable, proactive and able to build rapport at all levels.
• Good understanding of HR processes and procedures.
• IT literate.
• The ability to satisfy enhanced DBS checks required for this role.
• A full UK driving licence.
Desirable
• Experience of working on local authority and educational sector contracts.
• Demonstrated ability to develop a team’s delivery model and expand service provision.
• Experience of growing self-delivery capability in electrical testing and inspection.
• Experience as Electrical AP and SSOW.
