Headley Court – Emergency Recommission of Buildings

Start Month / Year;- April 2020

End Month / Year;- June 2020

Approx Value;- £900K

Background and Objective;-

Headley Court was a former Defense Medical Rehabilitation Centre based in Epsom Surrey, who’s aim was to return all those service personnel injured or seriously ill to full fitness. However due to the emergency situation with Covid-19, it was decided to turn Headley Court into a treatment and rehabilitation center for those affected by Covid. Corrigenda were asked by Surrey CC to help in recommissioning buildings at Headley Court near Epsom in preparation for provision of extra beds space for the NHS. Our objective was to make sure 4 x buildings were operational for emergency beds for NHS in the RSW Block, Mallard Building, Therapy and Accommodation Blocks. These works took place over the course of 6-8 weeks. There were a few risks that Corrigenda needed to take into consideration when planning this project. There was a fairly short time frame for planning/carrying out the works as the space needed to be up and running to accommodate the patients. Some of the electrical services may not have met the current standards in the RSW building and would require some updates to be able to achieve the job.

Works carried out;-

The following were completed across 15 buildings. Tested and inspected of all M&E plant and equipment and brought back equipment into operation where possible. Carried out Asbestos Survey/Asbestos removal where necessary. We removed/carried out modifications to the existing gas, domestic water, and heating pipework. Repaired and upgraded the fire alarm systems. Installed new boilers as required inc. pipework, flue systems, Expansion Vessel, and controls. Completed refurbishment of rooms to return in operation as ward and recovery rooms, inc. installation of new bathrooms/toilets. New walls and ceiling were installed to create new wards and treatment rooms. Checked operation and upgrade BMS/Controls System. New insulation and labelling as required. Tested, inspected, and reinstated lighting and small power systems throughout the buildings. Installed new lighting/small power circuits to suit new layout. We also installed a new generator and UPS. Replaced the HV transformers, installed temporary mortuary and serviced, repaired and replaced as required air conditioning and ventilation systems. Completed chlorination/testing of domestic water services. Carried out drainage surveys, cleaning and remedial repairs. Corrigenda also worked with a variety of different specialist subcontractors to complete these works.
